10 Popular Hindi TV Actors Who Acted In Bengali Cinema

Actors from Bengali heritage are often ridiculed for their diction and mispronunciations in Hindi language. But some Bengali stars have carved a niche for themselves on the small screen while managing to still reign in Bengali cinema. Here is a list of such actors who have either started and are still ruling hearts in the Hindi Telly scene while making a splash at the Tollywood box-office.
  • Roopa Ganguly

    The popular Bengali film actress rose to popularity after playing the character Draupadi in the hit Television series Mahabharat in 1988 which lead to a role in Mrinal Sen's “Ek Din Achanak”. She then went on to do films like “Padma Nadir Majhi” by Gautam Ghose, “Yugant” by Aparna Sen, and “Antarmahal” by Rituparno Ghosh. After working in a few Hindi films, she shifted to Kolkata, and appeared in Bengali films through the 1990s and then shifted base to Mumbai in 2007, with an English film called, ‘Bow Barracks Forever’ (2004), directed by Anjan Dutt,and continues to act in Bengali films. She has worked in Hindi TV series like ’Karam Apnaa Apnaa’ (2007), ‘Love Story’(2007), and ‘Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo’ (2009).     The notable Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee began his career with a Hindi serial directed by Saibal Mitra, based on Samaresh Majumdar's “Kaalpurush”. He gained popularity by portraying the character of Topshe in a Feluda-based television series directed by Sandip Ray. His acting in Bengali films has been praised by the critics, including his portrayal of a Ritwik Ghatak-inspired character in the 2013 film “Meghe Dhaka Tara”.
