The package of movies, stardom, power, and brand image is surely fascinating but it comes with a price. Bollywood stars have to give in their hard work to turn their movies into blockbusters. And in this process, they often have to go beyond their comfort zone. They act in risky conditions and are exposed to danger every now and then especially during action sequences. Minor injuries are a part and parcel of every star’s life who wants to make a mark in the Bollywood. At times, the level of danger goes up, and unknowingly these actors meet with accidents, of which some can be hazardous. In the past, actors had a narrow-escape from death because the cast rescued them immediately, else they would no longer be entertaining us.

  1. Aamir Khan in Ghulam

    Aamir Khan was about to meet with a train accident in the famous 10:10 Ki Daud scene while shooting for movie Ghulam. The actor had to run towards a speeding train. He jumped off the rails only when he was away from the train by 1.3 seconds. Spine-chilling! That’s a moment close to accident! It is said to be one of the most daring scenes to be shot in Bollywood. This scene won the Best Scene of the Year Award at 44th Filmfare Awards.

    Salman Khan nearly escaped a fatal accident that might have caused him death. While performing a stunt for Tere Naam in 2003, the actor had to walk in front of a train, Bhai was so engrossed in the scene that he didn’t realize the train had come quite close. Luck favoured the Dabangg star when a co-star pushed him across the railway track.

    Hrithik Roshan was shooting for his film Krrish 3 when he met with a deadly accident that would have made him lose his life. He was shooting an action scene, in which he had to dangle from a wire, the wire broke eventually. Good fortune favoured Hrithik as it was raining and there were canopies, so the Bang Bang star landed on canopies. Had it not been for canopies, Hrithik might have had serious injuries while falling from 50 feet height. Duggu, as he is fondly called, didn’t need to go to a hospital. He resumed the shooting after a little while.

    Saif Ali Khan came across a near-death experience while shooting for the film Kya Kehna in 2000. While riding a bike, Chote Nawab hit his head against a rock. He had lost a lot of blood and had a swollen head. Preity Zinta came to his rescue and insisted for a specialist. Saif was immediately rushed to the Breach Candy hospital where he got 100 stitches. That is scary, right?

  5. John Abraham in Shootout at Wadala

    John Abraham had a narrow-death escape on the sets of Shootout at Wadala while filming an action sequence. Anil Kapoor who played the role of a cop in the movie had to shoot a blank bullet to John Abraham. Also, the bullet had to be shot from a minimum range of 15 feet. But it was accidentally shot from 1.5 feet distance, the bullet grazed at the side of John’s neck. Due to this reduced distance, the shot hit Desi Boyz actor with 10 times the intensity than it was supposed to. Anil Kapoor’s bad aim made the bullet graze else it would have hit the middle of his neck. Indeed, too close to death! This is one of Bollywood's worst on-set injuries.

    Aishwarya Rai gave death a miss while working for Khakee. A jeep was running in front of the former Miss World at a location near Nashik, it had to stop at a distance of 20 feet, but its brakes failed and almost ran over the actor. She was thrown on some bushes and was rushed immediately to a hospital. The accident caused her bruises and a fractured left leg.

    Kangana Ranaut was shooting for Manikarnika in Hyderabad when a tragic accident took place. During a fight sequence, Nihar Pandya’s sword accidentally hit Kangana Ranaut’s forehead due to wrong timing which made a deep cut between her eyebrows. She was bleeding but she put up a bold face. She was rushed to the Apollo hospital and admitted into ICCU. She was under observation for a while. The doctor said that the cut was close to her bone. The Queen star expressed proudly that she will wear the scar since it resembles the heroism of Queen of Jhansi. Producer Kamal Jain added that Kangana refused to use a body double for the action scene.
