12 Bangla Movies With Bold Content That Dared To Break The Stereotypes

Kaushik Ganguly's much-talked-about film Nagarkirtan touches the most tabooed and ignored part of our society. It is about the love story of Parimal AKA Puti, a transwoman, who is born with a body of a man but is a woman at her heart. Puti falls for Madhu, a flute player and their love story starts rolling with the burden of society's disapproval. Starring Ritwick Chakraborty and Riddhi Sen, the film has bagged multiple National Awards including the Nation Award for the Best Actor (Riddhi) in 2018.

Directed by Koushik Kar, Parnomochi is a bold narrative revolving around a teenager boy's unhealthy addiction towards pornography. The idea might sound disturbing to the mass audience, the film beautifully portrayed the crisis without any gore yet stayed truthful to its content. Rwitabrata Mukherjee did a splendid job playing the protagonist in the movie. 

Directed by Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Khawto is a romantic thriller that tells a story of a novelist, Nirbed Lahiri, who pens down romantic thrillers and shares a complex, illegitimate relationship with a woman whom he considers as his muse. The film, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee, Paoli Dam and Raima Sen is Tollywood's first attempt in the genre of Bengali hot movies.

Recently, one of the bengali sex movies, Cosmic Sex made the headlines due to unpredicted treatment that it received from Nandan authority. Directed by Amitabh Chakraborty, this Bengali erotic movie deals with the 'Baul' philosophy of Deha Tathya that emphasize on exploiting sexual energy for spiritual practice. In direction of Mainak Bhoumik, Family Album explores the deeper secrets of every individual of a supposed happy family. From a lesbian daughter to a mother who is afraid of losing her youth, the film conveyed daring content without losing its adult jokes and sex jokes.

The story starts when a transgender documentary filmmaker (Rituporno Ghosh) comes to Kolkata to make a documentary on Chapal Bhaduri popularly known as Chapal Rani for his female impersonation in Jatra. Rituporno enacts the noted actor and it draws a parallel between two humans with the same dilemma. Despite being certified as 'A' the film received critical acclaim to become one of the favourite 18+ Bengali movies.

Q's first full-length movie explores today's women who, after being ditched by their significant others set out to explore their sexuality without being judgmental. The unabashed and experimental attempt received positive remarks for smart storytelling and out-of-the-box concept. It won't be wrong to say that Bishh is one of the best Bengali sex movies to have released in recent times.

Based on the controversial novel Bibar, written by eminent author Samaresh Basu, the film with same name narrate the story of an investigating officer in a finance company caught in a psychosexual releationship with a high class escort named Nita. The protagonist suffers due to lack of values in life and hits a low when he murdered Nita and framed someone else for the same.
