The consumption of digital content on OTT sites like Netflix and Amazon has gone up owing to the Coronavirus, which forced people to quarantine at homes. This has mounted pressure on Telecom network infrastructure to provide high-quality data. To ease the pressure and mitigate congestion, Netflix decided to reduce the traffic on telecom networks by 25% while maintaining the quality of service for users in India. Amazon is also temporarily lowering bit rates to reduce the burden on telecom networks. Even Hotstar which uses adaptive bitrate streaming which ensures that it is lean on bandwidth consumption is prepared to reduce the bitrate for HD streams if needed.
